Woodwose (O.E. wuduwasa, 'wildman of the woods'): Formed in 2012 out of a passion for ancient, wild and exotic instruments such as hurdy gurdy, bagpipes, shawms, cittern, percussion, harps, recorders and whistles. Originally a quartet and an offshoot of medieval/theatrical band Daughters of Elvin the band now has a flexible lineup built around the core of Steve Tyler and Katy Marchant. Recently we have been working with Portuguese percussionist Ricardo de Noronha and singer Katherine Christie Evans. A CD is available.
Collectively they draw their inspiration from the dark gothic era, European Folk music traditions and the voices of the ancestors whispering in the wind and rain of the moors and forests.
Woodwose have delighted audiences in the UK and abroad with their exciting and entertaining performances which juxtapose authentic medieval music with the band's own original compositions written for an array of exotic period instruments. They are equally at home playing at folk festivals, rock festivals, Early Music events and for French Bal.
“Woodwose came to entertain us at Festival at the Edge. The music was enthralling and beautifully played, and the band knew so much about the history of the tunes, where they were played and what for…but don’t get the impression it was a history lecture… they were also extremely funny and told some wonderful stories about each other and their colourful lives as musicians.”

I wanted to thank you for performing at this year’s Dart Music Festival.
I was so impressed by the presence and theatre that Woodwose brought to St Saviour's church for your performance.. The audience reaction speaks for itself and I have to say your music was some of the most entertaining I had seen during the festival. Seeing audience members literally rocking in the isles will remain with me for a long time.
Thank you so much and hope you can bring your music to a future festival.
Thankyou. You were wonderful. I was quite tearful through much of it. They were fantastic.

I felt I just had to thank you for the amazing set that you did on Friday night,at the music festival. We were very lucky to sit on the front row, so we had a perfect view of everything you did. We loved every second and just didn't want it to end. From the fabulous entrance you made from the rear of the church, to the very last note, you were all terrific and extremely talented.
